It didn’t take long for fired New York Yankees coach to land a new major-league job.
On Sunday, the Boston Red Sox announced that Dillon Lawson was added to their staff as assistant hitting coach. Lawson was fired in July 2023 by the Yankees after spending more than a season in the role. It was the first time Yankees general manager Brian Cashman fired a coach in-season. (Sean Casey was then added.)
The 39-year-old Lawson spent five seasons with the Yankees’ organization before joining Boston’s as minor-league hitting coordinator during a season in which prospect Kristian Campbell exploded and other prospects (Roman Anthony, Marcelo Mayer and Kyle Teel) had promising seasons.
In Boston, Peter Fatse is the lead hitting coach while Ben Rosenthal is the other assistant.
